It is common for guitar lovers of all abilities to have old guitar masters that they look up to and try to style themselves upon.
In most cases it is not possible to replicate the style of any of the greats as there are so many variables possible when producing sound and tone.
What exactly goes towards creating the sound and tone of a guitarist is a multitude of elements such as the type of guitar being used, the type of pickups, the settings of the pickups, the type of guitar strings being played, and of course the amplifier and how it is setup – and this is even before considering the actual guitarist and how they bend the strings.
Two legends of guitar immediately come to mind when one considers the Blues genre of music and those guitarists are John Lee Hooker and BB King.
A particularly awesome guitar that is uniquely connected to BB King is the Epiphone BB King Lucille produced originally by Gibson. The guitar is an absolutely beautiful piece and has some cool features for changing the tone mid way through a song.
Playing 5 nights a week while being well into his seventies in my mind makes BB King one of the penultimate performers of the past 50 years.
An inspiration to all us run of the mill guitar players who continue to plug away at the guitar. Follow BB’s lead and we can keep playing to audiences at your rest home!
Another awesome guitar for blues guitarists is the Epiphone Sheraton guitar as used by John Lee Hooker .
John Lee’s life is the story of blues legends – having grownup in a family of poor farmers in the South he lived through some of the harshest periods in US history – the Depression followed by WWII before landing in postwar Chicago where he worked at Ford during the day and played guitar at night. Featuring in the movie “The Blues Brothers” was a change from his guitar performances and he really reached international fame with his hit album “The Healer” which came out in the late 1970’s. Sadly John Lee Hooker passed away in 2001.
An acoustic guitar was John Lee’s guitar of choice in the beginning of his career, then he changed to an electric guitar when he moved to Chicago, and in the 1960’s changed to the Epiphone Sheraton guitar.
Reissue guitars, being those that are copies of guitars used by past guitar masters are generally of excellent quality given they carry the name of a great guitarist.
Having an opportunity to own a guitar reissue of a master guitarists gives all of us the opportunity to own our own piece of history.
